We lost one of the club's most treasured members in March 2007, "Beau" Bob Smith.

Robert Gary Smith, more affectionately known as “Beaurepaire Bob” Smith or simply as “Beau Bob” was the second eldest in the family of “Spargo” and Phyllis Smith. Donny was the eldest followed by Bob then Colleen, Dianne and Jenny. A very close family with great sporting abilities.
Born on September 21, 1940, in Wauchope Hospital, Beau was a true blue born and bred "Wauchopean" and was fiercely proud of it. He was one of Wauchope’s favourite sons. He made friends easily and once you were his friend, you were his friend for life.
He enjoyed a wonderful family life - Bob and Rhonda were a devoted couple and their two fine sons Chris and Dave and their families were their pride and joy.

In the surf club in those early years Beau was a member of our champion rescue and resuscitation and march past teams. He also had a few rows in the boats and even had a go as a sweep on occasions.
He fell in love with surf skis at an early age and proudly constructed his own ply racing ski following the plan from the old brown surf club manual. It was and still is a masterpiece. Like all his possessions Beau took great pride and kept things in magnificent condition.
When the fibreglass skis came into vogue Beau secured a Byron Bay wave ski and he was probably the best wave rider of all. He was doing 360s before anyone else had thought of them. On his wave ski he was master of the surf.
After a lapse in competition in the late 1980s Beau made a return as a Master competitor and started to really make a name for himself in beach sprints, beach flags, single racing ski, wave ski, double ski and board rescue.
He won countless NSW and Australian medals in all of these Masters events. His first world medal was at Manly in 2000. He won NSW State Masters Championships in single ski, beach flags, wave ski and double ski.
The pinnacle of Beau Bob’s career was in 2006. It was preceded by the tragic loss of his darling wife Rhonda. Bob’s courage led him to win the NSW State, Australian and World Championships in the over 65 years beach flags at Cronulla, Kurrawa and Lorne. They were dedicated to Rhonda.
Bob was a winner of Wauchope’s Sportsman of the Year and three times a member of the Wauchope Sports Team of the Year with his mates from Wauchope-Bonny Hills.
Beau was a very humble man who avoided the limelight but worked quietly behind the scenes. He was a very loyal friend and a thorough gentleman.
He was honoured with life membership of Wauchope-Bonny Hills Surf Life Saving Club, a club he served so well for over 40 years. When a new surf boat was christened “The Beau Bob” in his honour, both Rhonda and Bob were so proud. He was a dedicated volunteer surf life saver and it is indeed a tragedy that he is lost in the 100th year of Surf Life Saving.
Beau was so courageous over the almost 12 months after he became ill. Almost to the last he was walking, cycling and walking his little friend Jake. In hospital he was surrounded by his huge number of friends and his beloved family members.
On the Sunday after he died, Wauchope-Bonny Hills Surf Life Saving Club members tendered Beau Bob a fitting tribute on his beloved Rainbow Beach. The surf boat “Gilly” was launched and rowed out beyond the break and all oars were raised. Shortly afterwards about 20 surf club mates swam out to sea and formed a large circle and farewelled our wonderful colleague.
We will miss you Beau. To Chris, Dave and all the family, our hearts go out to you all.
Beau is now at peace.
